About

playtest is a private convening featuring discussion and demos by practitioners whose work has relevance to the application of VR/AR and emerging media to humanities research, education and engagement. Humanists, creative technologists, community scholars, artists, librarians, educators, anthropologists, archivists, social justice advocates, and journalists will participate in the sessions, which will be structured as hands-on play-test demonstrations, moderated discussions, and workshops offering feedback on project prototypes.

playtest is organized by Tahir Hemphill the Harisios Papamarkou Chair in Education at the John W. Kluge Center, Library of Congress. As Education Chair, Hemphill is focused on the Library's role in the interaction between electronic and traditional knowledge. The John W. Kluge Center of the Library of Congress brings together scholars and researchers from around the world to stimulate and energize one another, to distill wisdom from the Library's rich resources, and to interact with policymakers and the public.

“Today the stories we tell are embedded in networks and pixels instead of wampum and rivers, but they may still have the power to last through seven generations, to influence the lives of my great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren, for the people I do not yet know, and those I have only met in dreams.”

"What I really want is to navigate an abstracted layer of networked objects in a way that is inspired by the aesthetic sensibilities and technical approach that a dub engineer brings to the studio."
